5 Supercharged Summer Smoothie Bowls

28/08/2018

August may be coming to an end but that doesn’t mean that summer has to!

I’ve been getting such a kick out of smoothie bowls in the last few months, and it’s amazing how much people can underestimate their ability to fuel and power you along all the way until lunch!

First of all, let’s get one thing clear. Fruits and vegetables are carbohydrates meaning it isn’t essential to reach for the Special K or sliced toast in order to get that quick release energy when beginning your day.

It’s easy to bulk up a breakfast smoothie when all the ingredients are blended together. Finally, combine with some healthy fats and protein and you’re good to go!

What makes a smoothie the real winner is from a digestion perspective. Less work for your stomach means more energy for you! Just be sure to get some slow release ingredients in there to make sure you don’t run out of steam before 10am!

Of course, we all have busy days where a smoothie might not see us through the first half of the day entirely, particularly during the winter months.
But as I said, the more you blend up, the more nutrients you can pack in. So, go to town with experimenting different combinations and see what works for you!

I’ve just completed a 3 month internship this summer at home in Brussels so you can be sure a daily 6:30am rise demanded a fair amount of horsepower to see me through, even during the heatwave!

Below are my 5 go-to superfood smoothie bowls which have kept me supercharged this summer!

1. Peach Oat Paradise smoothie:

2 peaches
1 tbsp chia seeds
1/4 cup of oats
1/2 frozen banana
1/4 cup orange juice
1/2 cup almond milk
Add a drizzle of maple syrup and desiccated coconut on top to finish.
( + more fruit on top if you need more energy)

2. Anti-oxidizing Berry Blast:

Handful of strawberries
Handful of raspberries
Handful of blueberries
Small handful of lettuce/spinach
Small handful of red cabbage
Few mint leaves
½ cup water or milk (I always take a dairy free option such as almond or coconut)

3. Kidney Cleansing Green smoothie:

1/2 avocado
1/2 lime
Kiwi
Banana
Parsley
½ cup water

Add fruit on top to finish!
I went for another kiwi and some blueberries

4. Healthy Chocolate Breakfast shake:

1 banana
1-2 tbsp cocoa powder
½ cup almond milk
1 tbsp peanut butter
1-2 tbsp chia seeds

5. Veggie Flush Detoxing Green smoothie:

2 cups spinach
2 cups water
1 cucumber
2 celery stalks
1 pear
Juice of 1 lemon

Add chia seeds on top to finish!

I hope these smoothies inspire you to get creative with your first meal of the day 😋
