How to make every day the best day of your life!

05/03/2018

What you will realise from reading my blog is the secret to making life work with you rather than against you in every area, always boils down to your mind and the thoughts you emit every minute of every day.

Today I want to focus on how you can make every day the best day of your life!

Through mindfulness, I have learnt many tricks and loop holes to get around circumstances that could have otherwise seriously hindered my personal growth.

From my own experience of transitioning from a lazy unmotivated pre-teen to an ambitious “young adult” on a mission for self-discovery and prosperity – I have realised that they key to a fruitful day is how you BEGIN.
Your initial headspace upon awakening is when your mind is at its purest.
After hours of unconsciousness as your body resets itself mentally and physically, it’s the first few thoughts that accumulate (perhaps without you realising), which can have a major effect on the proceeding 14-18 hours of your day..
As you struggle to surface from under the warm comfort of your duvet, rather than becoming disheartened, feel empowered that you have a whole new day ahead of you to accomplish whatever you desire!

Those days where everything just seems to keep going WRONG and not being able to understand what you have done to deserve this? Sounds familiar? The answer is more under your nose than you think…

If something disheartens you from the get go, our mental habit is for a stream of negativity to begin flowing, consequently impacting your perception you go about your daily routine.

My favourite quote by the Buddha is, “what you think, you become”. By following the Law of Attraction, negative thoughts attract negative situations, creating a domino effect of misfortune.

So, by raising your frequency and adopting a glass half full approach from the minute you open your eyes – whether it be to the aggressive beeping of your alarm clock or not – establishing uplifting morning habits will aid you in sowing the seed for a fantastic day!

  1. WAKING EARLY

One of the main things which I realised made me happier was getting up earlier, but this was the hardest habit to build. The satisfaction of working out, eating breakfast, and perhaps getting laundry done all before 10am, feels monumental. Knowing you’ve ticked off a good chunk of your to do list before lunchtime has even arrived, is very rewarding. A common stress we face is feeling as if there isn’t enough time in the day to get everything done that we’d like. By waking earlier in the mornings and sleeping earlier in the evenings, you’ll find yourself not only more accomplished but also more energetic and alive as you grant your body the natural sleep cycle it desires. But don’t get me wrong, I definitely don’t stick to this.. Despite becoming a convert early bird, there’s still a night owl lurking close behind… I love going out with friends and partying until late – and it can be done! Life is all about balance, and as long as you make up for the hours lost, don’t hold yourself back from going to Friday night’s rave. 😉

  1. DRINK A GLASS OF WATER

You’ll feel instantly more awake!! It sounds obvious that grogginess is due to dehydration yet most of us don’t think to keep some h2o on our bedside tables.
Drinking water on an empty stomach will help release toxins generated from the body’s self-repair during the night. Consequently, this improves metabolism, boosts digestion, and improves complexion (to name a few). If you continue to keep hydrated throughout the day, snacking cravings reduce as you realise half of the time you THINK you’re hungry, you’re actually just thirsty. This promotes healthy weight loss/maintenance.

  1. MEDITATIONI’ve been meditating for a couple of years now but almost daily for a year and I cannot express enough how beneficial it has been for me. Just 10 minutes is enough to put you into a calm and collected headspace to then going on to face the day’s demands and manage any negativity that may get thrown your way with more composure and rationality. Through meditation, we realise that thoughts are simply just thoughts, and that you don’t have to attach yourself to every single one that passes through. Stay focused on what you want and don’t allow anything or anyone to get in the way of that!

  1. EAT BREAKFAST
It is the most important meal of the day, fact.
That’s why it’s called breakfast because you’re “breaking” the “fast”. How do you expect to soak up the morning’s energy if you’re not running on any fuel?

  1. GIVE YOURSELF ENOUGH TIME TO GET READY
Rolling out of bed with 5 minutes to shower, get dressed, and pack your bag is hardly going to set you off on the right foot is it? By waking up earlier and not rushing to get everything done, you’ll leave the house more at ease and less likely to forget something.

  1. NO SOCIAL MEDIA
I can’t stress this one enough… We’re all aware of the effects that social media usage has on our mental well-being – endless mind-numbing scrolling through our Instagram feeds whilst we subconsciously compare our lives to those around us is detrimental to our sanity. I’ve become so aware how much my mood is impacted after half an hour of being glued to my iPhone versus reading a book or calling a friend. So many of us start the day by checking our newsfeeds because that little voice in your head likes to remind you to catch up on ALL THE THINGS you’llhave missed out on in all of the last 8 hours…
By embarking on the digital detox, I’ve felt more connected than disconnected as a result. More connected to myself and what’s happening around me. More at peace with the mornings and my responsibilities.

Now, I’m not saying by doing these specific things you’ll never have a bad day again but developing a morning routine filled with conscientious self-care will put you on the right track to feeling good about yourself and your environment.
